Is Minecraft multiplayer safe for my child?

On a public server, the main risks are strangers, chat, and spending. Minesight is built to reduce each of them. No online space is risk free, so it also helps to know what your child is doing and to talk about it.

Strangers

Only usernames a parent has entered can join. Everyone else is turned away at the door. Players use real Minecraft accounts that we check, and the family server (12 and under) is kept apart from the teen server (13 to 17).

Chat

An automatic chat monitor warns players who use bad language or share personal details such as an address, phone number or social media name, and flags worrying messages, for example someone asking a child to keep a secret, to an adult. It cannot hide a message, so please also tell your child never to share personal information and to tell you if someone makes them uncomfortable. Players can type !report in game or you can use the report page.

Spending

Extras are cosmetic and give no gameplay advantage. There are no loot boxes. A child can ask for an extra in game only if you have switched that on, and nothing is charged until you approve that exact request by email. You set a monthly limit and can remove the card at any time.

Talking to your child

Agree a few simple rules together: who they play with, what they never share, and that they can always tell you if something feels wrong. In an emergency, call 999.
